The album is nothing short of a message to his daughter in case of his death (the album begins with cassette tape starting and ends with it). It is intimate and raw.įollowing this idea of “eyez,” there is a common theme of perception and perspective on the album (maybe it is even the central theme). That being said, the album is not intended to be heard by a large audience. ![]() Cole’s reference to Pac leads us to believe that he was influenced by Pac, but decides to pivot from his core message. Pac, on the other hand, was heavy on beats and his main message was based in black militancy similar to Malcolm X (I know this simplifies Pac a lot, but for now that will have to do). From this, we can potentially decipher that the album is going to be mellow, introspective and personal. The title implies it is the polar opposite of Pac’s most popular album (Everyone looking at Pac vs. 4 Your Eyez Only is a clear allusion to 2Pac’s All Eyez on Me. Here they are: (feel free to shit on them or add to them). I know 4 Your Eyez Only hasn’t been out for 48 hours, but I have a lot of thoughts swirling around and I wanted to compile them somewhere.
